GL Database
The General Ledger Database (GLDB) stores the chart of accounts for financial statements and project accounting as well as budget data. All financial statement transactions are ultimately managed in the GL database.
This database is made up of two sides – the General Ledger (GL) side and the Job Ledger (JL) side. Both sides of the GLDB have Account Structures that are made up of Org Keys, Key Parts, Object Codes, and Object Groups. The primary difference is that the JL needs to be paired with a GL and does not have distinct posting strategies.
The GLDB allows for multiple General Ledgers and allows as many as ten Job Ledgers attached to each General Ledger. The Job Ledger is commonly used for grant and project accounting.
Also housed in the GLDB is the Budget. Each defined General Ledger and Job Ledger contains as many as 25 budget versions available for use within each fiscal year.
