Cognos Setup

22.4.0 and later.

Cognos Configuration

Cognos Configuration has been moved from the BusinessPlus Configuration Utility to the NUUPCO page in BusinessPlus.

  1. Document the Cognos configuration values from one of the below methods before you upgrade. These values will be needed in the next steps.

    • BusinessPlus Configuration Utility

    • BTMQ \Appsettings.json file

If you did not document the Cognos configuration values before you upgraded, find the values in the backed-up file. You can find the file at BTMQ\Appsettings.json.oldversion.
  2. Log into BusinessPlus.

  3. Launch the NUUPCO page.

  4. Select Cognos Enabled.

  5. Add a record with your documented values for the following fields.

Values shown here are only examples. Use your documented values.
    • Cognos URL: http://bp-cognos21.corp.powerschool.int:9300/bi/v1/disp

    • Root URL: https://bp-cognos21.bp.powerschool.com/ibmcognos/bi/v1/disp

  6. Click Save Changes.

  7. Log out of BusinessPlus and close the browser window.

  8. Restart the IIS.

Single Sign-On

The NUUPCO page has additional fields for Single Sign-on (SSO) settings.

Users are automatically signed into Cognos using SSO when they:

  • Add a Cognos report to a Link Component
  • Select an existing Cognos report link from the BusinessPlus dashboard
  • Add and select a Cognos Dashboard link
During SSO initialization, users will experience a delay due to user authentication processes running in the background.

Add Cognos Reports to the Dashboard

Add Cognos reports to the BusinessPlus dashboard using a Links Component:

  1. Enter Dashboard Edit mode.
  2. Select Add New Component.
  3. Select Links Component.

  10. Click Add Links.
  11. The Links Settings page closes and the Cognos report is added to the Links Component.
  12. Save the dashboard settings.

Cognos report editors can add a link to go directly to the Cognos Dashboard:

  1. Enter Dashboard Edit mode.
  2. Select Add New Component.
  3. Select Links Component.
  4. Click Add. The Links Settings page is displayed.
  5. Select Cognos Dashboard.
  6. Enter a description for the dashboard link.

  10. The Links Settings page closes and the Cognos Dashboard link is added to the Links Component.
  11. Save the dashboard settings.

User Security

Administrators with a WSEDITOR security association (refer to common code NUAS/WSEDITOR) can control BusinessPlus dashboards by user security. They can create dashboards specifically for Cognos reports.

A new security association can be added (using common code NUAS/xxxxxxxx), or existing security associations can be used, to control which users have access to the custom Cognos dashboard. When using a new security association, it must be added to eligible users in NU Manage Users in the Administrative Console.

Upon login, users with the correct security association will have the new dashboard option (circle) appear on their dashboard. Selecting the open circle takes the user to the custom Cognos dashboard where they can review the Cognos reports that were added by the administrator.
